The contemporary digital landscape has fundamentally altered how civic information is disseminated, debated, and consumed, leading to the emergence of complex and highly dynamic civic media ecosystems. Within these multifaceted environments, maintaining a robust degree of information diversity is critical to fostering productive democratic engagement, encouraging cross-cutting discourse, and mitigating the pervasive risks of ideological polarization. This paper investigates the intricate role of adaptive community governance in shaping and sustaining information diversity through the application of advanced agent-based modeling techniques. By simulating a wide array of community governance structures, ranging from rigid, top-down platform moderation to highly decentralized, adaptive community-driven rule sets, the research provides granular empirical evidence on how varying governance paradigms influence the spread, retention, and ultimate diversity of information across networked user agents. The custom agent-based model introduces complex parameters representing user cognitive biases, platform algorithmic amplification, and specific governance interventions such as community content flagging, algorithmic de-amplification, and peer-to-peer norm enforcement mechanisms. Extensive simulation results indicate that highly adaptive, community-governed ecosystems are significantly more resilient against the formation of algorithmic echo chambers and information homogenization when compared to static, centralized governance models. The findings demonstrate that enabling local community clusters to dynamically adjust their moderation parameters based on real-time network states yields optimal levels of information diversity. This study contributes to the broader theoretical discourse on digital democracy and platform governance, offering a rigorously tested computational framework to assess the long-term viability of decentralized governance models in mitigating contemporary socio-technical challenges within civic media spaces.References
